Violist Julie Michael strives to bring the same spirit of sincerity to the performance of music of all eras, for all audiences. A passionate interpreter of new music, Julie has collaborated with many composers to commission and premiere new solo viola and chamber works. Julie has performed throughout Europe and North America as former violist of the Tana Quartet and Amaranth Quartet, and through guest appearances with ensembles including Ictus, Alarm Will Sound and Ensemble Intercontemporain. An engaging performer for young audiences, Julie regularly gives concerts and workshops at schools and children's festivals. Currently based in Brussels, Julie holds degrees from McGill University and the University of Michigan and is pursuing doctoral studies at KU Leuven.
As a teaching artist, Julie believes in the power of music to stimulate personal growth and build relationships. Following training in Suzuki and Dalcroze methods, Julie has taught strings at youth programs including Harmony Project SF Bay Area and Share the Warmth in Montreal, as well as a term as visiting professor at the University of Panama.
